Doris Wilson, 89, of Traer passed away on Wednesday, April 18 (the birthday of her late husband, Jim), 2018, at the Sunrise Hill Care Center of Traer, surrounded by her loving family.

Doris Blanche Keizer was born December 25, 1928, in rural Sioux County, Iowa, daughter of Gerben and Amy (Darville) Keizer. The family moved to Hawarden in 1935. Doris graduated from high school in 1946 and attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, graduating in May of 1948. On June 27, 1948, Doris was united in marriage to James Wilson of Traer, and taught for a time at the Traer School. Together they farmed the family farm with son, Dennis and daughter-in-law, Jean, until Jim passed away in January of 2000. Doris worked at the Farmer’s Savings Bank for almost 23 years, retiring in 1990. Doris and Jim enjoyed wintering in Florida for almost 30 years, playing shuffle board, and searching out flea markets. Doris loved gardening, flowers, bowling and books.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and two brothers, Eugene and Leroy. She is survived by two daughters Linda (Mike) Bovy of Waterloo; Sharon (Dennis) Pavelka of Pleasant Hill; and one son, Dennis (Jean) Wilson of Traer; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren with another due in August; her brother, Milton (Joelle) Keizer of Washington; and a sister-in-law, Alice Keizer of Pennsylvania.

Memorials may be directed to the Traer United Presbyterian Church or the Traer Library.
