Donald Raymond Matthias was born in Denver, Iowa, on February 25, 1936, son of Herman and Amanda (Beckel) Matthias. He was married to Bettie Crain on November 21, 1959 at the Cedar Bible Church in Cedar Falls. Donald lived in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls areas all of his life. He worked for Platt’s Nursery for 10 years and at the John Deere Foundry for 26 years before retiring in 1991. He also served as a deacon at the Cedar Bible Church. Donald died at the age of 81 on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John; 5 sisters; and 3 brothers. Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years; his sons: Kenneth of Waterloo, Michael (Janet) of Waterloo, and Brian; 4 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
