Don Jay Van Wyk passed away December 17, 2016 at the Bridges Nursing Home in Ankeny, Iowa. He was born on July 19, 1930 to Henrietta (Hattie) and Garrett Jacob (Jake) Van Wyk in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
He graduated from Pella High School in 1949. Don and his twin brother, Dale, joined the Navy Reserves prior to enlisting in the Seebees during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He worked most of his life as a photo-engraver. He enjoyed the sports of hunting and fishing.
Don will be missed by his wife, Elizabeth (Liz); his children, son David Van Wyk and wife Nancy Ensley M.D. of Ely, Minnesota, daughter Ruth Ann Hingeveld of Fremont, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Alyssa Rae Hingeveld of Fremont, Wisconsin, Amy Johanna Hingeveld of Fremont, Wisconsin; nephew Mark and wife Karen Frisbie of Concord, California, and niece Joy Frisbie of Portland, Oregon.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie and Jake; his brother Dale; and sister Marjorie Frisbie.
Don will be inurned at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. The family requests no flowers be sent to the cemetery.
