Visitation

Dirk Philip James Herold

Dirk Philip James Herold, 27, passed away April 24, 2017 at Taylor House Hospice from liver issues. The family will visit with friends  on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Merle Hay Funeral House, 4400 Merle Hay Rd. from 3:00-5:00 pm with a memorial service following.

Dirk was born to John and Teresa (Becker) Herold on February 27, 1990 in Des Moines, and found out shortly after he needed a liver transplant.  At the age of 6 months, he received his new liver, and remained relatively healthy until the last seven months. After graduation from Urbandale High School in 2010, Dirk became a father to the love of his life, his daughter Jaden.

In his free time he enjoyed playing pool, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.  Dirk is survived by his daughter Jaden Bennett of Des Moines, parents John and Teresa (Becker) Herold, brothers Creed Herold, Johnston and Grae Herold and fiancé Amanda Fizer of Grimes, paternal grandparents Robert & Jerry Herold, Beaverdale.  Aunts and uncles, Michele Herold, Des Moines, Mike & Teresa Herold, Urbandale, and Diane & Todd Moreno, Johnston.  Cousins Nicole (Kirchner) & Ben Lowe, Luke Kirchner, Josh Kirchner, Carson Herold, Natalie Herold, & Cody Moreno.

Dirk was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Tom & Dorothy Becker, Hansell, Iowa, and Uncle Paul Herold.

The greatest donation that can be made in Dirk’s memory is to register to become an organ donor at iowadonornetwork.com.  We had 27 years with our son that wouldn’t have been possible without the gift of life.
