David Lee Brown

David Lee Brown entered his home in heaven September 30, 2017, where we expect he is worshipping God, singing his favorite hymns at the tops of his lungs, enjoying the fellowship of his loved ones who were awaiting his arrival and maybe, just maybe, fishing with some very famous fishermen.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, October 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. David’s life be celebrated with a memorial service on Thursday, October 12 at 2 p.m. Both are being hosted by Crestwood Baptist Church, 3717 Forest Avenue, in Des Moines. Burial by cremation.

David was born and grew up in Independence, Missouri, but after living here more than 45 years, Iowa became his home. He was a graduate of Northeast High School, Kansas City Bible College, Ouachita University, and Southwestern Baptist Seminary. Married to Marilyn Jackson in 1959; they have three children; Jeffrey, Jana, and Jenifer.

David pastored churches in five states. He retired after his pastorate with Crestwood Baptist Church, Des Moines. David was also Director of Central Iowa Crime Commission and served as Chaplain with CrossRoads Ministry, at Ft. Des Moines Correctional Center. In his retirement years he remained involved in ministry at “The Fort” and served as an Interim Pastor, and guest speaker in numerous churches and organizations. Mission trips to Africa, Brazil and Korea were the highlights of his life.

Of his many interests enjoyed were fishing, kayaking, gardening, walking trails, singing hymns, tinkering in his “workshop” and he could often be found ministering to the needs of others in the church, neighborhood, hospitals, and care facilities.

David was proceeded in death by his parents and brother. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marilyn; son, Jeffrey (Joyce) Brown; daughter Jana (Timothy) West; daughter, Jenifer and grandchildren: Christa, Craig, Leah, Emily, Alyse as well as two great-grandsons; Samuel and Benjamin and sister-in-law Jeanette Brown.

Memorial contributions may be sent in memory of David to Taylor House Hospice, 3401 E. Douglas Ave., Des Moines, Iowa 50317.
