David Ronald Andrus was born on October 14, 1959 in Des Moines, IA. He was the son of James and Mary (Johnson) Andrus. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1978, Dave went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. After the Army, Dave attended Drake University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Dave started a long career in law enforcement as a Polk County Deputy in 1983 and later worked for the Iowa Department of Corrections. He spent the last 15 years of his life as an insurance fraud investigator. Dave enjoyed power lifting, exercising, old movies, reading and being outdoors. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan, never missing the chance to follow a game. Dave was incredibly proud of his children and their accomplishments and loved his grandchildren.
Dave unexpectedly passed away at the age of 57 on Saturday, October 29, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald. Dave is survived by his wife, Sherri, whom he had been happily married to since 1993 and his three children: Brian (Tiffany Smith) Andrus of Boise, Idaho; Megan Andrus and Jordan Andrus of West Des Moines; three grandchildren; Chloe Smith, Jackson and Emma Andrus; one brother, James Andrus of Des Moines, a nephew and three nieces.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Valley Church, 4343 Fuller Rd. West Des Moines. Luncheon to follow. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
