Darrel Dean Baker

Darrel Baker was born June 23, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa: the son of Leslie and Bertha (Krall) Baker. Darrel married the love of his life, Alice Kriegermeier, on June 5, 1976 in Marion; they would have been married 41 years this month. He worked at John Deere for over 36 years. Darrel was a member at Central Christian church with his wife. In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trap shooting. Darrel also enjoyed biking, yardwork, and traveling–he had been to Germany and Hawaii. He helped with Meals on Wheels along with kitchen duties at the Church bazaar. Darrel was also a Mason at Martin Lodge #624 and belonged to the Cedar Falls Gun Club.

Darrel passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home at the age of 71. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife; his parents; and two brothers: Donald and Doug Baker. Darrel is survived by 2 daughters: Deborah (Christopher) Brackin of Waterloo and Susan Hemenway of Waterloo; a son, Damon (Linnea) Baker of Elgin, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Baker of FL; and a sister, Marilyn (Tom) Swanson of IA.

Darrel will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice Home and Central Christian Church in Waterloo.
