Visitation

Clyde M. Bristow

Clyde M. Bristow, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Rowley Community Center in Perry, Iowa. Clyde has made it into his new life where he can finally think clearly and be his happy self again.  At his request, no funeral service was held as he said he had outlived most of his friends and all of his family.

Clyde was born on June 2, 1926 in Waverly, Missouri the son of John & Lillie (Closterman) Bristow. He graduated from the Waverly High School in 1941.  He worked on the dredge boats to help support his mother and brother as his other brother was gone to the war.  In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed on Wake Island.

Clyde was the best mechanic you could find and he could fix anything. These talents began to diminish with the onset of Alzheimer’s in the late 90’s.  He worked as a mechanic, even opening his own shop, and then worked as a security guard until retirement.

Clyde was a loving husband to Donna, his wife of 45 years. He was a loving father who taught his daughter to dance by standing on his feet.  He also taught her to be a shade tree mechanic and a loving daughter.  He cherished time with his grandson.  They were the best of friends until the end of his life.

Clyde loved stack car racing, boating, fishing and a good drink of Black Velvet & &, or possibly quite a few at times. He was an avid animal lover having horses, dogs, cats, chickens and even a pet wild raccoon.

Clyde is survived by his wife, five children and three grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, the family plans to establish a memorial in Clyde’s name with the Alzheimer’s association. Please send contributions to the family.
