Cheryl Lynn Smith, 63, passed away surrounded by her loving family at Mercy Hospice in Johnston on April 8, 2016 from COPD complications.

Cheryl was born September 17, 1952 in Muscatine, IA to Charles and Betty McIntyre. She graduated from Davenport West High School in 1970 and received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Iowa Wesleyan University in 1990.

Cheryl married Dennis E. Smith of Columbus Junction, IA on March 5, 1971. She worked as a nurse in geriatrics, pediatrics and home health care in Iowa, South Carolina, and Minnesota; teaching and taking care of others for close to 40 years. Cheryl enjoyed gardening, traveling, art, cooking, volunteering and spending time with her family and 10 grandchildren; Jaryd, Alec, Tyler, Bayley, Cayden, Payge, Zachery, Savanna, Natalie and Lauren; and grand-dog, Smokey.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Dennis; and her 4 children; Jobi, Nicolle, and (twins) Brendle and Benjamin. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers.

A private memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Ames, IA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mercy Hospice Foundation in memory of Cheryl, directed to mbradke@mercydesmoines.org.
