Charles K. Slack

Charles Keith Slack 92, of Norwalk, died on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Burial will be beside his wife in Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born on March 26, 1925 in Carroll County, near Glidden, to Earl and Ruth Slack. He moved to Des Moines in 1930 and lived there all his life. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1943 and entered the Army. He returned in 1946 and married Lois Edison, in 1948. They were married for 53 years. They had three children, Mark, Cheryl, and Julie.

Keith retired from Northwestern Bell/ US West Qwest in 1986, with over 30 years of service, as a transmission technician. He was a member of the Des Moines Radio Amateur Association since 1953 and he was also active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, troop 78.

He is survived by his daughter Julie, and a brother Gail and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Lois, his son Mark, and his daughter Cheryl.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Des Moines.
