Bonnie Nellis McCampbell was born February 26, 1921, and departed this life on January 10, 2017. Bonnie grew up in Memphis, MO, the daughter of Sherman and Hazel (Warning) Nellis. After meeting and marrying the love of her life, Carroll (Mac) McCampbell, on October 11, 1942, they settled in Waterloo and were blessed with four children. Bonnie spent many years as a seamstress, sewing both for retail marketplace and the community along with countless creations for her family. Being a survivor of breast cancer, she also caringly crocheted hundreds of hats for cancer patients across the country. Bonnie’s greatest joy was spending time with family. She was proud of her children and their extended families and joyfully celebrated each milestone they passed. Bonnie was a great listener, wonderful letter writer and loved the Lord.
Bonnie passed away at the age of 95 years at ABCM Rehabilitation Center in Independence. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mac, on January 13, 1996; sister, Jean Wells; and son-in-law, Gary L. Bird. Bonnie is survived by 2 sons: Ronald (Sharon) McCampbell of Mesa, AZ, and Mark (Bonnie) McCampbell of Vancouver, WA; 2 daughters, Carolyn “Corky” Bird of Masonville, IA, and Rosemary (Don) Cashman of Harper’s Ferry, IA; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family.
