Beverly Jeane Vowell, of Summerville, SC, formery of Rogers, Arkansas passed peacefully on June 24th at her home, surrounded by family and friends.
Beverly was born to Harold and Helen (Bookout) Fitz on October 26, 1930 in Hollywood, California; a star from the beginning! Beverly moved to Dexter, Iowa when she was 13. She later moved to Des Moines and graduated from North High School in 1949. Her career began at 16 years old working for Montgomery Wards and after 42 years of service with them she retired in 1988.
Beverly loved helping others and worked as a volunteer for 35 years at St Mary’s and Northwest Hospitals. She loved time on the water and sailing when she was younger at Clear Lake, IA. She also loved cats and motorcycling with her husband, George. Beverly and George moved to South Carolina in April 2013. Upon moving to South Carolina, she spent a great deal of time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren watching them swim and play sports. Her smile and laugh were contagious and she had a love of life that shined onto everyone she met. She will greatly be missed by all.
Beverly will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband George Vowell, daughter Judy Streyffeler, grandson Michael Davis.
She is survived by her sons Bill (Donna) Streyffeler and John (Trisha) Streyffeler; daughter Joan Davis; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; step-daughters Lucy (Jim) Slagle and Linda (Doug) Harding; step-son Scott Vowell; 3 step-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
Her family will receive friends at Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines, Iowa, beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 9, 2016 with a celebration of her life immediately following at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue league of Des Moines or a charity of your choice.
