Betty Hamilton

September 24, 1933 - December 29, 2015

Betty Ruth (Taylor) Mettler, Farwell, Hamilton, 82, went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2015, peacefully at home with her daughter by her side. Betty fought with COPD in the last three years of her life. A Celebration of Life service for Betty and her sister, Lorrayne Stephenson (who passed away on January 4, 2015) will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd., Clive, IA. You are encouraged to share your memories with family and friends at this time. A visitation will begin at 1 p.m. prior to service. A private burial for Betty and Lorrayne’s ashes will be held at a later date.

Betty was born in Leon, IA on September 24, 1933 to George H. Taylor and Louise M. Smith. She was the oldest of five siblings and quickly became the caregiver in her family.

She was known for her hard work ethics, kind spirit and unconditional love. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. Betty touched so many lives with her beautiful smile and big heart.

Her love for others carried over in her later years when she became a CNA. She worked at Heather Manor, Calvin Community, Visiting Angels and also took on some private care. Betty was an exceptional caregiver who always put others first.

Those who will greatly miss her are her children, Michael B. (Donna) Mettler, Patricia A. (Dean) Hutchins, Donald R. Mettler, Robert A. Hamilton, and Carl F. Hamilton; grandchildren, Jeffrey D. and Joseph D. Hutchins, Kala Beasley and Jennifer Wahlert; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Caitlin Hamilton, Benny Redling, Brandon Johnson, Skyler Greenman, Cameren Elizabeth and Dylan J. Hutchins; sister, Opal Nelson of Nevada; and brother, Leland “Red” Taylor of California.

Betty arrived in Heaven and was greeted by her husband, Merle E. Hamilton; grandson, Carl Hamilton, Jr.; parents, George and Louise; brother, Orlan Taylor; and sister, Lorrayne Stephenson.

The family would like to extend a “Very Special Thank You” to the staff of Suncrest Hospice and Aging Resources of Central Iowa for the love, care, guidance and support they provided for their mother. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions and condolences may be forwarded to Patricia Hutchins in care of Brooks Funeral Care.
