Betty (Bruhn) Brumbelow, 95, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. A Celebration of Life service will be held 6 P.M., Friday, April 22, at Valley Junction Church of God.

Betty Jane Bruhn was born August 14, 1920 to Walter Liberty & Equality and Edith Lyle (Scott) Bruhn in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was raised in the Des Moines area and graduated from North High School. Betty met a young sailor one day in 1943 by the name of Leolon, who she soon married.  With this union came two children, Effie and Walter. They raised their children in the NW area of Des Moines.

Betty was a housewife for most of her life. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Betty enjoyed taking care of her husband Leolon up to the time of his death. Betty’s love for her own children was shown as she would let them come back to live at home from time to time. Betty loved shopping with her granddaughter Megan and Nicole. She took care of Walter’s children when they were young while he went to work. Some of her favorite TV shows were the Young and the Restless, Reba, The Hallmark Channel, and old black and white war movies. Betty loved to collect bells from various states and porcelain dolls.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Betty is survived by her daughter, Effie ( William)  Young; son, Walter (Cindy) Brumbelow; grandchildren, David (Christine) Chongo, Charles ( Simona) Chongo of San Francisco, CA; Michelle Young ; Jennifer (Brian) Sawhill; Jill (Cody) Linn; Teresa Klug; Julie ( Michael) Meinert of Castle Pines, CO; Nicole (Andrew) Morrow; and Megan Brumbelow of Augusta , GA; 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leolon C. Brumbelow; grandchildren, Steven and Sarah Young; great-granddaughter, Kylee Marie; parents; and brother, Billy Bruhn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice.  The family would like to acknowledge everyone for their kindness and support during this time of bereavement.
