Bettie EmaLee Hampton passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 29th, 2017 at the age of 80.
Bettie was born on July 6th, 1936 to Tom and Agda Dearduff. She grew up in West Des Moines, Iowa with her younger brother Jim. As a teenager, she was one of the few young girls to own a car and enjoyed riding around town. She graduated from Valley Highschool in 1954.
In the early sixties, Bettie married her husband Ron and they moved to Ankeny, Iowa. Together, Bettie and Ron enjoyed square dancing, bowling, playing cards, and nights spent at the baseball fields. They raised three children in the same home before his passing in 1998.
Bettie worked at and retired from Highland Potato Chip in the seventies. Later, she began working at Des Moines Area Community College. As a retired women, she attended classes and earned an Associates Degree.
Bettie enjoyed many activites. She was an avid reader, and music lover. She was an exceptional seamstress, and had a talent for embroidery and sewing. She was a collector of many things and a member of various clubs. Above all, Bettie enjoyed her time spent with family.
Bettie’s fiesty Swedish spirit and tenacity will be missed. She is survived by her children, Mark (Debbie) Hampton, Cindy (Dan) Rolow, and Matt Hampton. Seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Her brother Jim (Pat) Dearduff. Niece, nephew, and three great nephews.
Bettie was preceeded in death by her husband, Ron Hampton.
The siblings would like to sincerly thank the Dearduff and Jurkiewicz families for their compassionate care of their mother over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family.
