Bernard “Barney” Langford, 70, passed peacefully on April 21, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A funeral service will take place at Merle Hay Funeral Home: 4400 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 10 AM. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service.
Barney grew up in Leadville, CO and was a true mountain man. Once in Iowa, he enjoyed driving around Saylorville Lake looking at the wildlife with his wife. He traveled frequently for work and had visited all 50 states (except Alaska). In his honor, the family invites friends to join in a social gathering following the funeral service at a location TBA. Per Barney’s wishes, he asks that no one wears black to his service, but instead, wears apparel to support their favorite sports team- preferably the Denver Broncos.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Violet; children: Genia Kumm, Will (Raquel) Langford, Jacqueline Calaway; and grandchildren: Jayden, Kaylea, Bryce, Lawson and Ian.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Audra; grandparents, William and Jackie Langford; a sister; and Dick and Mary Vaughn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Elks Lodge in Clive.
