Arlene Marr

December 3, 1917 - December 5, 2015

Arlene E. Marr was born December 3, 1917 in Richmond, Iowa to Anton and Helen (Sauer) Kern. She died peacefully at home December 5, 2015 at the miraculous age of 98 with family at her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 9 at St. Theresa’s Church. Interment to follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

Arlene was one of the first members of St. Theresa’s. She was highly involved for many years with the Altar and Rosary Society, headed up numerous fund raising efforts to build the current church and led many Church fundraising bazzars, bake sales (where she had a sterling reputation for her home made baked goods) and dinners. She also enjoyed her membership in the Catholic Women’s League which she maintained until shortly before her death.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Thomas Marr; her son, Ronald (Marilyn) Marr; grandchildren, Anthony and Amanda Marr; brother, Donald (Darlene) Kern; sisters, Rita Young and Donna Onstot; several nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Helen Kern; brother, Cletus Kern; sisters, Vivian Smith and Carolyn Weitzell; and nephew, Timothy Grady.

A visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 8 at Brooks Funeral Care – University Chapel followed by a rosary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dowling Catholic High School or St. Theresa’s Church.

Special thanks to Drs. T.M. Brown, MD and Dale Steinmetz, MD, Gentiva Home Health Care/Hospice and Senior Helpers who cared for Arlene the past several years.
