Arden Royce Wood, 92, son of Arthur and Femmie (Chapman) Wood, was born Nov. 14, 1924 in Adair Co., Iowa. He passed away on May 11, 2017 in Altoona. He attended rural school and graduated from Panora High School. On February 11, 1945, he married Norma Jean Bancroft. They celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2015.
Arden was a retired farmer and carpenter. He and Norma Jean farmed near Yale and Fontanelle, and also lived in Creston and Panora before moving to New Paris, IN where they they worked at World Missionary Press. They later returned to live in Des Moines.
He is survived by five sons including Keith (Doris) of Bettendorf, Carroll (Linda) of Bridgewater, Larry (Judy) of Greenfield, Dean (Charlene) of Coralville , and Marvin (Mary) of Altoona; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother-in-law B.B. Byer, and two sisters-in-law Marjorie Wasson and Marlene Bancroft.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean; his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and three grandchildren, Karen, Scott, and Jonathan.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m., Sunday, at New Life Church, 6036 NE 12th Ave. in Pleasant Hill. The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at the church. Burial will be in the Brethren Cemetery near Panora. Memorials may be given to New Life Church or to the family for missions.
