Anita Jean Betz

Anita Jean Betz, 84, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Mercy Hospice Home in Johnston, Iowa.  Visitation will be held at the Resurrection Lutheran Church, 914 NW Ash Dr, Ankeny on Sunday, April 8 from 4 – 6 pm.  Her funeral will be held on Monday at 10 am, also at the church.  She will be buried at the Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

 

Anita was born on January 27, 1934 in Pella the daughter of John & Cornelia (Wymberg) Bos.  Anita met John Betz at her grandmother’s farm, a romance ensued and two years later on August 30, 1952 they married.  Two and a half years later their son, Dennis was born and five years later their daughter, Denise was born.  Anita retired from Emco Enterprises in Des Moines after many years with the company.  Later in life she and John loved to winter in McAllen, TX, and they enjoyed being part of the “I Wanna Go Camping” club.  She was very talented in French Weaving, and made many afghans and blankets for family and friends.  Anita was very proud of the knitting she did to make hats for children’s charities in McAllen, she created over 250 hats for the children.

 

Anita was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John, and her parents.

 

Anita is survived by her children, Dennis (Toni) Betz and Denise Betz; four grandchildren, Aaron Gwennap, Kailah (Jeff) Schmitz, Kenton, and Kourtney Betz, a great granddaughter Torran Jo Schmitz, many nieces, nephews and friends.  Memorials may be directed to the church.
