Melvin Forrest Grimm was born October 4, 1920, in Millersburg, Iowa, son of Forrest Manley and Pearl Gladys (Keller) Grimm.  He was raised and attended schools in Millersburg and then worked on his family farm.  In 1942, Melvin enlisted in the United States Navy serving in the South Seas.  On December 5, 1953, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Grace Klein and they lived in southern Minnesota. The couple eventually moved to the Dysart area where Melvin worked in farming and they had four children together.  Marilyn passed away on September 30, 1999.  On July 15, 2000, Melvin was united in marriage to Irene Ellen Austreng.  They complimented one another beautifully during their 16 years of marriage.  Melvin was a gifted woodworker and made model cars, cribs, furniture and toys for his grandchildren.  He loved his green and white 1955 Chevy!  Most of all, Melvin will be remembered for being a hardworking man who loved his family.

Melvin passed away at home from natural causes on Thursday, September 29, 2016, just 5 days before his 96th birthday.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marilyn; son, Dana R. Grimm; great-granddaughter, Allison Taylor; 2 brothers, LaVern Grimm and Kenneth Grimm; and 2 sisters, Eva Worrall and Orpha Clubb.  Melvin is survived by his wife, Irene; son Barry (Tara) Grimm of Dysart; 2 daughters, Tamara Garwood of Grundy Center and Brenda (Jerry) Baldwin of Inver Grove Heights, MN; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Catherine Coffman of Sigourney, IA.

Memorials may be directed to the Dysart Ambulance Service.
